The Amazing Race Canada - Racing For Our Lives

 

Discussing Ep. 8.6 - So a real treat for me in this episode as they visit the Forest City and I'll see what I recognize in the city. As well, we see the return of D&D, Broadway and Cali. It'll be interesting to see how they re-incorporate them into the competition.

Interesting! So JeM are making a concentrated effort to work with CoBren and Franella to be the top three at the end of the race and then let the chips fall where they may after that. I like the strategy and I would trust CoBren to agree to that but not so much Franella. They've proven to be a bit too ambitious and cold and I don't know if I would trust them to work with the other two to make it to the top three at the end. Beveron might have been the better choice but we'll see if JeM's strategy pays off.

"On this race, we will never take another shortcut. We will do it the right way...we'll do it the hard way and we're going to get it done!"

I mean, admirable words and an admirable mindset but CeTy have been in the bottom half of the competition so far. But perhaps their transgressions from the last leg will have motivated them to be better this round.

Geez! Marshalls REALLY getting their money's worth in the advertising on this show!

Hold up! They have to memorize the outfit and then shop all of Marshalls for the different elements in that outfit? What if two teams pick the same outfit? Will there be a fight for the items of clothing? 

See, that's rubbish! So the teams DON'T get to to pick the same outfit and the outfits are clearly labelled with the Amazing Race tag so they know which ones to pick. I suppose that's fair but I think it would have been better had they had other shoppers in there and a Karen moment occurred. I suppose legally they can't do that by having random people on camera without signing waivers and what not but it would have been funny seeing the racers having to wade through throngs of people to get to their item and possibly have some customer pick up the item that they need and they would start arguing then and there for it!

Oh no! My team is getting flustered already. They spoke about using the EP at the beginning of the show. I'm hoping that not's a hint that they will be using it and possibly wasting it on a challenge that they should be able to easily do!

London, Ontario!

I don't know about that line about it being the center of music, technology and higher education. 

Any town with a university in it could qualify for all of that too!

Did JeM seriously get lost trying to reach East Park? You get on one road and drive East on it and you'll eventually get there! London is probably the least complicated city in Ontario, especially in comparison to Toronto!

That was great! Wow! The rest of the racers were enthusiastically cheering on the return of D&D, Broadway and Cali....and meanwhile Beveron could not have looked any less impressed! Their half hearted applause was gold! 

GOLD!

But to be fair to them, I get their frustration. To have competed thus far only for the three teams to be inserted at this leg of the race without having earned it....yeah, I get the annoyance of that. And yet, only one team has truly been eliminated since the start of the race and that's Kull....twice! And the three teams were removed through no real fault of their own so they deserve the chance to compete since it was taken away from them. So I think it all balances out in the end.

Damn! So only two of the three teams will get to stay and they essentially have to go on a glorified Easter Egg hunt to do it! What a waste of time! You travel all that way to London, Ontario, with all your gear, only to end up going home yet again! But I guess there really is no other way to do it. My guess is that it will be D&D going home. They've been rather mediocre since the beginning. But who knows at this point.

Ya see? Franella are looking to re-establish their alliance with Broadway and Cali and will dump JeM at the drop of  hat! If Broadway and Cali do make it, I actually would applaud them forming a Triad while CoBren, JeM and Beveron make the other Triad. Though I don't hold Beveron in high regard, they seem to be somewhat more loyal than Franella (but perhaps not by much) so I'll take that over Franella's competitiveness any day!

They missed it! You should be looking in every hole, in every bucket, in every nook and cranny that you can find!

Cali found it and are going to tell Broadway! D&D never had a chance when the other two teams are in cahoots. But if they lose, I don't feel bad because they walked right past it!

Oh, great! So in place of Kull singing every chance they get, I have to now endure Broadway singing AND dancing every chance they get! I don't know....I get annoyed because it's like Kull and Broadway are just showing off their talents for the sake of showing off. Yes, you can sing. Yes, you can dance. Congratulations! But you don't have to flaunt it at every opportunity! That's like being able to mimic Donald Duck. Yeah, cool...you sound like Donald Duck! Very rare talent indeed! But it gets real old real fast when you do it CONSTANTLY!

So it's either build a propeller for a plane or....

Do a motion-capture VR routine. I'm torn on this one. The VR looks easy but I don't think it will be. The propeller assembly looks hard but it might be more straightforward than the VR.

CeTy in first place? Never thought I'd see that. Let's see if they can maintain that though.

Good grief! So is this Beveron's gimmick now? They seem to be the ones asking for help all the time but give no help in return. Now, I haven't exactly seen them outright betray anyone and I've seen Franella leave them hanging, bu them seeking help from others but not being helpful in return seems to be the pattern. If they somehow, some way, return the favour to CeTy....I may come to view Beveron differently.

They got there last and they finished first! That's CoBren for ya!

A dog agility training course! I know one particular dog who could benefit from that!

Oh, the kiss of death. Any time the racers start saying they've done something in the past and the current challenge is "right up my alley," they usually have the hardest time with it. I hope Marika's boasting is warranted and she can master the motion-cap challenge fast!

Yeah, this is one challenge where I can see someone using their EP because if the dog doesn't want to cooperate....the dog doesn't want to cooperate and what can you do?

Like...what the hell is that?!? Why does she have to do a ballerina split in mid air when she jumps? Just jump like normal human being for crying out loud! Even the prof is like..."what the hell?"

I love how Cassie thought they got it only for the prof to completely burst her bubble!

And there it is! All that talk from Marika about this being right up her alley and here they are, discussing as to whether they should use the EP. It's not a good strategy given that they have one more challenge and it's with the dogs who might not be cooperative. This challenge they have more control over...they next one, not so much!

So they meditate to the point of hearing singing birds or lose their meditation and hear thunder. It's sort of like that Wii game where you had to sit still and the candle on the screen would flicker out if you lost the meditative pose.

"This should be easy for me." Have you learned NOTHING from JeM and the others? That line is the kiss of death!

Why was I not told that any of this was happening on campus?!?

Well done, Franella! And they didn't even use their EP. They definitely have an advantage now along with CoBren. JeM wasted theirs rather foolishly and so we'll see if they pay the price for it. I'm assuming here and now that every Pit Stop is a final one where the last team will be eliminated. They can't afford to keep giving teams chances since they've given so many teams second chances already!

Didn't think I"d see it! CeTy finishing in the Top 3! Well done, guys! And they did it right this time!

So it was a non-elimination round and they're making up for it by having TWO teams eliminated in the next round! 

A rather fun episode. I was disappointed in JeM because of them using that EP needlessly. Beveron's reaction to all the other teams coming back and even Jon asking them how they really felt was priceless! It was pretty cool seeing them all in London and at the university. I'm really eager to see some alliances form and factions go against each other.

We need more drama!
